Well we have had a cat café and a dog café, and now for one weekend only, we will have the Rat Café.

This will be at the new Edinburgh Dungeon Tavern, and customers will be able to stroke and cuddle what the organisers feel is a most misunderstood animal.

If you are so minded then some rat experts will be in the cafe to give you information about the Rattus norvegicus.

The menu has been updated to take account of the event. Now you can sample some Carrat Cake or have a Rattucino……

The business is working alongside the National Pet Initiative (NPI) and a team of volunteers. You will be expected to donate £2 to the NPI to allow you to stay there for an hour, if you can stand it that long!

Edward Evans, General Manager, said: “Rats have always had an undeservedly bad reputation as being dirty and disease-ridden creatures, but our fancy rats are hygienic, extremely well groomed and full of character.

“The Edinburgh Dungeon wants to change these common misconceptions of rats by inviting visitors to enjoy our furry friends first-hand. Our Rat Café will provide scary and unconventional fun for the whole family to enjoy, while raising money for the National Pet Initiative”.

The Rat Café will open its doors from 4 May to 6 May. Entry is through pre-booking only and demand is likely to be high, so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Find out more and book at www.thedungeons.com/edinburgh.
