Pet rats

Nala and Mirembe (“Mira”) are 1 year-old female sisters, and they’d run victory laps in their cage upon being adopted since they are living in the shelter, which is a place filled with cats!

Tawny, cuddly, and curious, Nala is perfectly content without a Simba — Her favorite play pal is her sister, Mira! Nala loves to be held, tickled, and cooed over (She’ll occasionally even put up with a belly rub!) Her favorite treats are pasta and broccoli. If you look closely, you’ll spot a little nick out of her right ear. Brave as Nala is, the nick isn’t a battle scar — she was born with it.

Mira is the shyer of the two. She likes to stick right by her sister, and she loves to have her ears scratched. She’s obsessively clean (grooming is her favorite past-time), and her favorite way to spend a hot summer day is asleep, with her tail wrapped securely around her head.

Both pet rats are happy, healthy, and eager to find a home, to say the least!

To apply for Nala and Mirembe, please fill out an application online at and you will be contacted or you can meet them at the Marblehead Animal Shelter, located at 44 Village St., Marblehead. We are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays 4 to 6:30 p.m., Friday 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 781-631-8664.

We have kittens!  We have males, females, long-haired, short-haired and different color kittens to choose from. They will be ready to be placed anytime between now and four weeks. We are still in desperate need of volunteers to foster care some of our kitten litters. The shelter is full! If you are interested please give us a call. The commitment can be anywhere between one and five weeks.

SPAY NEUTER: As always, volunteers encourage all pet owners to spay and/or neuter their pets!

SUMMER REMINDER: Do not to leave your pets or children in a car, during the summer, even with the windows down; it can be deadly in just a matter of minutes.
