Dogs most definitely hold a special place in our hearts and on the occasion of ‘International Dog Day’, I would like to write about an animal rescuer who goes out of her way to protect dogs and initiated a very useful and important service for pets.

26-year-old Laxmi Agarwal, a Dombivali resident, has been rescuing dogs for many years now. But while doing so, she used to face a lot of commuting issues. Whenever she used to hire a cab to ferry a rescued animal, drivers used to cancel the rides as they didn’t want an animal in their vehicle.

It’s the same for dead dogs. Drivers used to give me reasons of foul smell and lack of space. Then the idea struck me and I decided to start my own taxi service- Pet Taxi. I have my own car and a driver. I started lending my car to those who wanted to take their dogs from one place to another. People unhesitatingly bring in their injured dogs in my taxi,” Laxmi Agarwal, Founder, Pet Taxi.

Pet Taxi functions like any other cab. If you need a cab to take your dog to a doctor or have to take somewhere else, you simply have to call this number – 9773509151 and book a taxi. Or one can go to their FB page – https://www.facebook.com/pettaximumbai/ and look for more details. You can schedule the future trips as well.

Currently, we have two cabs and we run across Mumbai. We have given over service till Surat and Pune as well. We charge INR 35-40 per km and it also depends on peak hours,” Laxmi Agarwal, Founder, Pet Taxi.

CA final year student, Laxmi, started this service in February 2016 and is growing strong. She had two pet rats – Fruity and Cadbury, who succumbed to their disease.

So many times I have been turned down by Ola and Uber drivers to ferry my pet dog, Boxer Max. When I heard about the service for the first time, I was more than happy that pets can now be taken from one place to another without any ruckus. I took him from Kandivali to Kalyan without any hassle,” Suraj D’souza, pet owner.

It doesn’t require much to be compassionate towards dogs. Little bit love and care would suffice. Those who love dogs, please rescue and don’t buy but adopt them and those who don’t, please don’t abuse them. Dogs are the only beings who love selflessly and makes one’s life heaven.

Happy International Dogs Day.
