A special wish was granted to a Huntsville teen diagnosed with a rare illness on Friday.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation made it possible for a girl to become the proud new owner of an English Crème Golden Retriever puppy.

After Megan Roberts, 16, was diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis, she spent a lot of time in the hospital. This year, she was referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and on Friday, her special wish came true.

Those in on the surprise gathered at a Huntsville pet store to give Megan her new 8-weeks-old puppy. Megan knew that she was getting a dog, but she didn’t know where and when.

On Friday, her mom took her to the store to pick out a dog collar and leash. While they were at the counter, out came the puppy.

Megan wished for this dog partly so she could help others. “My favorite part when I was in the hospital were the therapy dogs coming to see me,” Megan said. “I just loved that, so I wanted to get her so I could train her to become a therapy dog, and that way I can bring a little bit of joy to kids who are in the hospital too.”

Megan has a new puppy and a new path to recovery. After having her pancreas removed, she is on her way to recovery.
