Littleover Neighbourhood Board has decided to pay for the work at the Chain Lane and Uttoxeter Road junction following concerns from residents.

The board has funded the installation of a further “no right turn” sign at the junction, following an enforcement exercise by officers from the local Safer Neighbourhoods team.

The exercise, which ran from July 23 to 27, led to 17 fixed penalty notices being handed out to motorists for making the illegal right turn on to Chain Lane.

Five of the drivers live either on Chain Lane or on nearby streets.

Councillor Eric Ashburner, chairman of Littleover Neighbourhood Board, said: “The Littleover Neighbourhood Board installed the new ‘no right turn’ sign after receiving concerns regarding safety from residents and the police. Drivers should be advised that action will continue to be taken to enforce the ‘no right turn’ on to Chain Lane and further targeted patrols will be carried out in the coming months.”

Inspector Richard Keene, who is in charge of policing the area, stated: “The police had responded proactively to community concerns about the abuse of the ‘no right turn’ in the area and will be monitoring this on an ongoing basis.”
