Need a mouse or rat?

For the first time in almost forty years, you can now purchase one at any pet store in Butte.

The Butte-Silver Bow Council of Commissioners amended an ordinance passed in 1977 that originally made it illegal to sell rodents.

The new ordinance passed Wednesday night makes it legal for pet stores to now sell the mice.

It also allows people to own mice and rats as well, but there are specific rules for pet owners, such as they can only have three at a time.

The changes to the ordinance come after the Fish Bowl pet store was forced to stop selling the rodents late last year after a customer was bit.

The council gave the owner a 90-day period to sell the mice, which will now become permanent when the ordinance goes into effect in 30 days.
