MUNCIE, Ind. –

Prosecutors will consider criminal charges this week after inspectors raided a Muncie pet shop for unsanitary conditions.

They took 220 animals from the “Pet Shop and More” along Granville Avenue on Friday, including rats, mice, birds and hamsters. The Muncie Animal Shelter is housing them for now and said they won’t be up for adoption until the investigation wraps up.

This comes less than six months after a similar bust in the same strip mall. Animal control officers raided another storefront in August, removing more than 600 animals. The owner had an alligator, pythons and hundreds of rodents and told police he was hoping to open a pet store.
