Three beloved pets were killed when thoughtless thieves broke into house.

The bungling burglars managed to do away with a guinea pig and two pet rats after they broke a washing machine pipe during the break-in.

Hot water poured out into the flat in Luton throughout the whole weekend.

The much-loved critters locked in cages, and the heated water combined with sweltering temperatures meant the poor pets overheated and died.

The crooks made off with a number of electrical items during their raid over the weekend.

Detective Constable Colin Knight, the investigating officer, said: “This has obviously been a very distressing incident for the victim who returned to find their home had been burgled, a huge amount of damage had been caused by the water and their pets had died.

“I would urge anyone who has any information about this incident to contact police.”

Anyone with any information should call DC Knight on 101, text information to 07786 200 011 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
