Rats confiscated from Qld head biter

Watch out Ozzy Osbourne, you’ve got a challenger in town.

In a stunt reminiscent of the English rocker famously biting the head off a live bat on stage almost 34 years ago to the day, Brisbane man Matt Maloney decapitated a live rat with his mouth earlier this week.

Caution – Graphic video below

Except Osbourne thought the bat was a fake made of rubber, while the 24-year-old local knew his rat was alive and even posted a video of the gruesome act on Facebook.

RSPCA inspectors have now raided Mr Maloney’s Albion home and seized his pet snakes and his surviving pet rats, to protect them from his jaws.

“Normal people simply don’t do things like this. They show a complete lack of empathy and animal cruelty of this magnitude can be a precursor for even greater violence in years to come,” RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said.

The video was Mr Maloney’s bizarre attempt to create a new social media challenge.

“The rat in the video was a feeder rat and was always going to die. I fed the body to my snake after the video and it wasn’t wasted (I like to share),” he posted to Facebook on Friday, attempting to justify his stunt.

“All your comments are cracking me up and not one person out there will be able to say anything that will make me feel bad or make me regret what I did. It’s mother nature and man’s gotta eat!”

It’s unclear whether Mr Maloney will face animal cruelty charges.

The video comes after another disturbing video showed young men deliberately running over a possum and then laughing as it attempts to crawl off with its entrails hanging out.

“Both of these videos are very, very disturbing,” Mr Beatty said.

The RSPCA is looking at whether animal cruelty charges can be laid.
