When a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office patrol sergeant stopped to check on a vehicle in the parking lot of Dalton Point Rest Area, just west of Multnomah Falls, at about 10 p.m. Thursday the occupants told him they’d run out of gas.

After a bit of checking, the sergeant discovered that the vehicle, a 1997 Ford F250, had been reported stolen approximately 21 hours earlier in Logan, Utah.

Taken into custody were Brandon Kidder, 20, of Wilder, Utah; Brandon Ugarte, 18, of Logan, Utah; and Willow Sweeney, 19, also of Logan, Utah. A 17-year-old boy was also taken into custody. All were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Three “pet rats” belonging to Ugarte were transported to the Multnomah County Animal Services building in Troutdale.
