I Am Interested In Getting A Pair Of Pet Rats?

I am interested in getting a pair of pet rats for my flat. Do they smell and which sex is less smelly? Is it best to buy 2 or 3 for company? Do they make much noise? What is the minimum size cage to house 2 rats? Are the inexpensive to keep? Is there anything else I need to know about them?

I would suggest getting 2 females, as long as they get along okay. for the average rat, 2 sq. ft for one rat, and 4 sq. ft for two. keep in mind, there are many breeds of rat, one that comes to mind is fancy rats which are much larger than an average rat. i just gave my rat a blueberry yesterday, and she kept coming back for more. looked it up, and it turns out blueberries are very good for them! so yeah, fresh blueberries= perfect treat

Rats are very clean animals, they don’t smell and it won’t cost much to purchase the cage plus the rats. You should be looking at something around £30 for everything.

my friend has two male rats and they dont smell except if she dosent clean their cage every two weeks or so the cage gives off a bad smell. u probably should get 2 cuz they get lonly by themselves. they dont make a whole lot of noise but they play at night on their wheel and stuff so u can hear that.
i dont know anything else but i hope i helped a little

The last rats we had were females they were lovely, the cages will smell
if not cleaned regularly, you can get the cages in all sorts of sizes
they also like somewhere to make a bed and toys to play with,
but please be warned, rats dont live very long they suffer from
tumors which is very sad,but having said that they fun to keep

Rats do not smell as long as you keep up with cleaning the cage. I find bucks can be more musky.
If you can get two or three to get along then it is best for rats to have company. Some rats do prefer to be alone. These rats will need lots of attention from you if they are alone.
Here is a formula for the cages size:http://www.ratsrule.com/cagecalc.html
Rats eat a varied diet and they need little dust. Yahoo has varied lists—go to yahoogroups.com and search “pet rats”. You can find out about anything Rattie at the lists and other sites. One of my favorite rat places is Rat Space. http://ratspace.ning.com/
Lots of rat owners and lots of answers. You will find that Rattie owners care about their ratties AND all other owners and their furbeez.
