I don't know if it's just the pics or what but all of these rats look HUGE!  I tried to snap a couple of pics of Ellie and she clawed the crap out of me trying to right herself.  Piggy freaked out so bad, she started squeaking at me.

It astounds me that you guys got pics of rats just laying on their back, looking comfy cozy!  Do they do that as they get older?

I never knew rats did this until Socrates, she loooooved to crawl on her back and get belly rubs even.  I thought it had to do with age, too, but I think it has to do with their personality.  Sprocket and Mokey were my first two I was able to be there for them from birth to the time when I could adopt them; one of the photos is of Mokey sleeping.  They seem to just roll around.  Bolt though, she hated being put on her back, and I never pushed her.  Lexi who was her litter mate, loved it.  I can't explain it, I do think that it depends on their own preferences and the amount of handling they get.  They are totally 100% social animals.

Your profile picture- your ratty is adorable.  It definitely doesn't look like it's the amount of handling that's the influence, probably just their preference.
Ben and Socs LOVED swimming.  None of my others have liked anything more than fishing for peas.

To Deacon123-
They have free reign of my apartment for about 18 hours of the day, so they have a toooooonne of little nesting places.  While I am sleeping or if I leave the apartment, they go into their cage or if they indicate to me they want to go there, as they have made their point with my couch that they like to chew, still...not on the bunch of toys they have...
Thank you for the compliments for them.  I looooove the photos that everyone's posted on here, they are all adorable.  This is an awesome place to gush about the little ones in our life!!!!

Oh, a lot of work.  I had to purchase a lot of stuff to barricade the little ones away from the wires specifically, but also from going under the dresser and making a mess.  Other than that, I haven't had much of a problem.  I did have to forfeit my couch and a desk drawer.  They have chewed a lot out of my couch, but thankfully it was a little tattered when I got it, beyond that, they are also really easy to train when it comes to staying out of the kitchen.  I have one of those children/puppy fences there and a few times they'd climb over but I just call them with a very assertive tone and they would just stop....look side to side....wait for the second time and they'd bolt to the fence, jump over, and come.
They learn quick.
As much as  they are amazing they have chewed through my screen before, and they've chewed through the little fence thing, too, so that's why they still are reserved to their cage at bed time.  It's three levels and pretty big, so it's not a big issue for them wink
