Mr.R and I became Foster Parents tonight...

We would like you to meet Peanut. We are currently fostering him from the Toronto Humane Society and he's a Special Needs Bunny.

Hello, my name is Peanut. I am a young (under 2 years), neutered male Netherland Dwarf bunny. I came to the shelter as a stray in October 2009. I have maloccluded incisors, which means that my front teeth grow all funny, making it difficult for me to eat. Before I go home, the vets here are going to remove them!
This means 3 things for my new home:
1) All of my veggies, greens and hay need to be cut up onto small pieces so I am able to eat them easily.
2) I won’t be able to chew on your wire, furniture, or anything!
3) there is always the small chance that if the vets aren’t able to remove every fragment of the teeth from my mouth, one or more of them my grow back in the future. If this occurs, they may need to be removed again.

I am such a cutie and deserve a very special home! I am looking for a Special Needs Adoptive Home. If you think you can help me out, please call the Small Domestics Department

Mr.R called the THS this morning and they said that we were the first ones to call and if we were interested we needed to come down and fill out an adoption form. So Mr.R emailed me at work around 10:00am. There adoption hours are Monday through Sunday 12-6...hmmm we've been there before on a Saturday, what a zoo. lol So Mr.R and I kept emailing back and forth and decided to see if we could both leave work early. Yes...we could. So we went down this afternoon, signed in at 4:25 and left almost 2 hours later with Peanut, food, bedding and hay and these are huge bags, industrial size if you ask me. But we are just fostering him right now because he needs to have his surgery...One nice thing about that is the vet who's going to do it is 10 minutes away from us, so when the girl found that out she said we would most likely get to take him there for his surgery and pick him up afterwards. This is instead of taking him all the way back downtown and then someone there driving all the way out here to drop him off and then repeating the process in the afternoon. Because we are fostering we will have to take him back to THS in 2 to 3 weeks to get his teeth trimmed and if he has any health issues we have to take him back to the THS to get treated. So once he has his surgery and if all goes well within our care then we will be able to adopt our little Peanut!

Now for those of you who are reading this who are in the Toronto Area...

The Toronto Humane Society currently has over 90...yes over 90 Rats...Males and Females...Mothers and Babies...So please if you see this, drop by and adopt, one, two, three or more of those cute little ratties. And for those of you who don't know...There are NO adoption fees at the THS. They rely strictly on Donations...so if you can't adopt a rattie today...then please donate. Mr.R and I gave them a donation tonight and plan on giving as much as we can. We also have cages for them...although they don't currently need them, so we will keep the cages in storage until they do need them.

Oh my gosh  Mr. and Mrs.R!! Peanut is adorable i just love his story and that is so awesome that you guys are able to foster him tell he can be adopted!!    He is a very handsome boy and i love his colors!

Wow i cant believe how many ratties are at the THS has right now. I will defiantly be spreading the word for them!

I can't believe there are over 90 rats at shelters up there... I checked out shelters around here when I was looking for a rat rescue and there were gerbils & hamsters, but no rats.

Thanks ladies he's definitely a cutie and he's a love bug. I've held him 3 or 4 times tonight, once at the THS the other times here and he buries his head in my neck. lol Mr.R hasn't had a chance to hold him yet. The ratties will be out until about Midnight and after that we will get him out to free range and hopefully Mr.R will get to hold him for a little while and I'll get more pics.

Sarah, so sorry your shelters didn't have any rats. A few weeks ago the THS had over 130 rats, they had 8 pregnant females at once. Wow! Most of the rats there are PEWs and I think I saw a few BEWs along with some blazed rats.

Thanks Brittney, it helps that he's very photo-gentic and that he sits still for the pics. lol I'll try and get some pics today or tomorrow of his teeth. The poor little fella, his teeth are a mess (one is even broke) and when they do eventually do the surgery, we will still have to keep an eye on them because they could grow back. He will be having 6 teeth removed, his upper incisors (2 teeth), his lower incisors (2 teeth) and his peg teeth (2 teeth, which are behind his upper incisors).

Right now it's rattie time, so since I've only allowed him to be on the sofa so far, he has to wait his turn.  Although he has already been out several times today on the sofa, he's right at home laying down, sniffing at the cats. lol

No, just Jax and Cinder...My BooBoo won't go near him, I think he feels I'm replacing him. RooRoo, well he only comes out of the bedroom for breakfast and dinner and then between 10 and 11 at night and last night we had the ratties out at that time. lol

aw, he is so handsome....he found the right people   If anybody could take care of peanut like he needs, it is the two of you...he sounds like a sweetie..I hope his surgery goes well!  Will be thinking about you guys and Peanut!

Thanks Sarah, if only you knew...because we have to chop his greens so fine, we went and bought a food processor just for Peanut (of course I've always wanted one). lol
