Holly just started making weird noises in her throat about 10 minutes ago. I thought she was choking so gave her water in an oral syringe. Her lungs sound clear, no wheezing, but she's making a weird choking noise, or hiccup every few minutes that's worrying me, I have a video- it's sideways but maybe you can hear the noise she's making? Any idea what it could be, as she hasn't been making any noises, since I got her until tonight. Going to keep her in the carrier near me tonight.

Now the noise isn't constant- she's sitting next to me, and it's not as often as the video. Going to search for some online articles.

Now she's not making it at all anymore. Do you think she was choking or was it a nervous habit? This is the first time I've brought her downstairs since I got her.

That is really weird im not sure what that could be but it does sound like maybe she was choking. Did she have anything special to eat tonight? It could also be that she is nervous but i have personally never heard a rattie make that kind of noise over being nervous but every rattie is different so you never know. I'm so happy to hear that she stopped though.

The only thing different she had was a chicken bone, with a little meat on it, so it could have been that. She's on the bed with me now and no noises. She scared me so bad, with the losses recently, I'm an over protective rattie mommy. Going to keep an eye on her all night just in case. I gave her two oral syringes full of water and was patting her sides, massaging her. She was talking up a storm after that ordeal.

My heart is still beating like crazy, lol. I have Holly on the bed with me and not one little noise out of her. I never heard a rat make those noises either. Ginger & Cinnamon choked on peanut butter in the past and made a similar noise, but they also had a gagging motion. I checked in Holly's mouth and there was nothing, gave her the two syringes full of water. It could have been a bit of chicken off the chicken leg, she's never had it, so maybe she was greedy and it went down the wrong way. Her lungs sounded clear- and you could just hear her heart beat, so maybe she was choking. Poor baby, she gave me such a scare.

Me either, she was really worrying me. Still no more noises, I'm off to bed soon, going to keep her in the carrier next to me tonight just to be safe.

When we first got baby Pip she made a noise similar to that. It sounded like a pig grunting. I put her on antibiotics to be safe.  She still oinks sometimes when she is really excited or nervous.

Hehe, thanks Cathie so maybe she was nervous. Or choked a bit on a piece of chicken. No more noises last night or this afternoon. I had my Mom peep in and check on her.

She did it for a second last night when she was downstairs in the living room, but nothing like that other night. I'm starting to think it's a nervous habit thing. Because the rest of the time, if she's upstairs or in the cage she's fine and no noises.

I know, she's here on the bed with me now, and not one little peep from her. Both times she did it, she was downstairs, so it definitely might be a nervous habit. The first time she did it, she didn't stop for awhile.

Maybe she's smelling something different downstairs that's making her nervous.
