I stopped at Pet's Plus after getting my new drivers license. I just went into look but they had 1 each male & female Blue Hooded rats. I wanted to get the female, but the manager explained they were treating the blue hooded ones for mites right now and he didn't want to let me take her home until the vet gives the okay. So I bought her anyway and the store is going to call me when she finishes her mites treatment and the vet gives the okay, then I can bring her home. She's a big girl too, she must be an older rat, she's almost as big if not bigger than my Ginger. I wonder if Blue Hooded rats are normally bigger? Can't wait to bring my blue hooded girl home soon. Her name is going to be Hazelnut.
They also said they had some feeder rats, all different colors so I went to take a look. They had a bunch of PEW girls and two little black hooded babies. They are so tiny they can't be more than month or so old. I told them I'd take them both home too. Sooo.... please meet Pepper & Poppy. They don't have perfect hoods- Pepper's stops mid back and Poppy's almost reaches her tail. They are soooo small, just babies really. Poor babies... I can't believe they were feeders!

I think I'm going to have to keep the new babies in Sugar & Spice's old cage right now- the Ferret Nation even when I close off the one level may be too big for them, I'm afraid they would squeeze out of the bars. I'll have to see, when I put them in there. So now another week of QT for the new babies!
And a break from buying ratties for me, lol. I went from 4 to 3 to 5 to 4 and up to 7!

Congratulations! I am one of those people who has to get a new pet right away after one dies too. Hopefully they will help fill up the hole that you other girls left. Enjoy the babies. They are so much fun!

Hahaha! GGMR indeed! Actually, I was only going to get the blue hooded girl, until they told me they had female feeder rats in the back and after I saw them I couldn't let those sweet little hooded babies become food!
They said if Hazelnut's mites are gone they will give me a call next week, but if I don't hear from them I'll call Thursday or stop in the store on Thursday to see if her mite treatment is all finished. Definitely don't want my other girls getting mites. The manager doesn't want her to leave the store until the vet gives the all clear, which is a good thing!

I didn't think to check the Pet's Plus when I went looking for ratties last week, but then I wouldn't have my Ivy & Holly if I did, and they are sweethearts. Holly reminds me a little of Sugar. And Ivy looks like she's going to be a troublemaker like my Saffy.
I can't wait until Hazelnut can come home.
And the baby rats... Pepper & Poppy are soooo tiny. I don't think I've ever had ratties so small! They seem so curious already though, I was surprised by that, because Holly & Ivy were and still are a little jumpy at being handled.
I forgot to mention, when I brought them home, my Mom went to peek inside the box and Pepper came flying out and was hanging on the edge of the box, hahaha! We said she was Spice #2, (my flying girl.) which is why we named her Pepper, lol!

Sarah!! They are beautiful, i just love black hoodeds. They seem to have a special place in my heart, along with PEWS!
Aww and that's great that you will hopefully be going back to the pet store to get the blue hooded after she is done being treated for mites!

Thanks Mr. R, and hopefully I'll be able to post about Hazelnut soon, whenever the Pet Store calls to say she's mite free.
I have a question though- whenever they do call me and I can bring her home- is there anything I should look for when it comes to mites? Just to make sure she really is mite free. I want to keep Hazelnut in a longer QT since she did have mites. Should I also keep her in a different room? I don't want my girls getting them.
But since the store wouldn't let me take her home yet, I'm hoping they know what they are doing and she really will be mite free when I go pick her up. I think they said the vet gave them ivermectin for her.

Look for scabs around her neck and shoulders. Are they fresh or healing over. You can also do the tape test is you have a strong magnifying glass. Yes, you take a piece of clear box tape and put it on her back and then pull it off. If you have a microscope that's even better. lol Anyhow then fold the tape over, look at it with the magnifying glass and look for really tiny black bugs. Also make sure you don't put her anywhere your other girls will be playing and they mites can get on your clothes, so wait a couple of hours before handing your girls or take a shower and change clothes before handling your other girls.

Thanks Hilary, they are sweethearts!
Poppy has been my extra curious, full of energy girl. And Pepper mostly likes to cuddle or sleep. I think they are both getting used to their new diet though, because we've had some wet poo's this week.

I checked in with Pet's Plus today on the phone, they are waiting to have Hazelnut seen by the vet to make sure she's mite free. With all the blizzards and snowstorms we've been having, it's no wonder it's taking a little longer. Maybe I will have her by the end of the month though, that would be nice.
