i have 5 ratties and they all love the empty toilet paper rolls. Also pop tart boxes, any other boxes, tiny stuffed animals, plastic easter eggs, crumpled up paper in a ball, tissue box with tissues in it (they like to pull out the tissues themselves and make beds, but make sure the first tissue is partially out of the box so they know to grab it), and they sell a bunch of cool toys at Petsmart. smiley

Just to get you started: http://www.dapper.com.au/toys.htm smiley

Specifically, I have several types of hammocks, paper towel rolls, tissues, wooden chews, a wheel...etc in her cage.

Have fun with your new babies!

I recently got owned by my two girls, and I want to TOTALLY spoil them! So, what are your favorite home-made AND store bought toys?

I dunno if I can classify this as "major", but I recently purchased 2 baby dumbo rattehs. Ivy (the runt) is nervous, and tries to jump off me when I am holding her. They are about 51 days old, and so sweet, but I'm worried Ivy is going to hurt herself. How do I bond with her so she doesn't jump away?

Well, on April 20th, I FINALLY convinced my mom to let me get two rats! So, we called the local pet stores. Bad part was, there were ONLY boys, and I would Have to wait till after the summer to get my rats. I was heartbroken, because I had already been waiting 11 months. So, we were searching through pet store list when we found a place in Folley Alabama that JUST weaned a litter!

So now, I own 2 baby dumbo rats! Ivy is a black and white hooded, and she is a bit shy an wary of me still. But Persephone is a social butterfly! Stef is a blue powder du,bo, and both are BRILLIANT!

My rats Zoey, might have an Upper Respitory Infection. There are no vets in my area that are close at all that treat rats. There are vets, but not that treat rats. When i first got her, she would make those noises a lot, and all the time, but the longer ive had her, the better she's gotten. I got her on March 20th 2011. She only makes the noises once in a while and they are very low and quiet when she does. Is it possible that she's getting better on her own? And is there anything i can give her to help? Like a little advil or baby meds? Ive been taking her outside and she sits on my shoulder while im taking a walk. Maybe the fresh air is helping?? Ive also been giving her lots of healthy fruits and veggies. Anything else i can do? or things i shouldnt do with her?

I had a similar problem with my girls Yuki and Guinness at first and so I always wore a jacket that they could hide in while I held them. This turned out to be great for both of us as I found out I'm extremely allergic to the urine residue on their claws and break out in hives where they're little feet touch me.
It was a good bonding experience for all of us. They got the security of being able to hide while they were soaking up my smell and learning to be comfortable around me. =3
