Spring is officially here, which means pastel clothing, spring cleaning, and well “… babies, at least at Peninsula Humane Society SPCA. Your interest in any one of the following spring activities can mean good things for shelter animals.

• Fashion divas are invited to our Fashion for Compassion show on April 3 at the Westin San Francisco Airport, Millbrae. A luncheon is followed by an all-animal fashion show, featuring more than 20 different animals, including Dusty the “Klepto cat”! To purchase a ticket (advance sales only) call 650-340-7022 ext. 375.

• Small companion-animal lovers can join us for The Wonderful World of Rats, also on April 3, from noon to 4 p.m. The fest is dedicated to promoting domestic pet rats as companion animals. This free event, to be held in our auditorium, will feature rats awaiting new homes. Note that your own furry companions should be left at home. Check out www.Rats101.com.

• If spring cleaning is on your agenda, mark your calendar for April 22, when the shelter will be collecting gently used clothing, furniture, household items, etc., from 9 to 11 a.m. in the PHS/SPCA parking lot (at the truck). All donated items go to our resale shop, Pick of the Litter, located at 1127 Chula Vista Ave., Burlingame (650-344.1662). Proceeds from sales help us treat, then find homes for more animals. Of course, you can drop off items at the store seven days a

week, during business hours.

• If babies are more your style, consider becoming a seasonal kitten nursery or baby bird volunteer. Kitten nursery volunteers clean, feed, and care for motherless kittens in need of special care. A kitten nursery orientation is scheduled for April 16 at 1 p.m. Our Wildlife Care Center also needs extra assistance feeding and caring for baby birds. Orientations are scheduled April-June. Call 650-340-7022 ext. 370 to attend.

• There are plenty of other spring activities presented by PHS/SPCA including: Kids and Kits for 7-8 year olds on April 16, Humane Officer Program for high school students on May 20 and Critter Classic Golf Tournament on May 23. Learn more, visit www.PHS-SPCA.org.
