Amherst

∎ A 22-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on a charge of leaving the scene of a property-damage accident after the vehicle she was driving on East Pleasant Street struck two mailboxes and a trash can at 6:02 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

∎ Police officers and the animal welfare officer assisted residents with multiple animal issues Tuesday. At 3:44 p.m., an officer provided water to two dogs in distress after they were locked into a vehicle parked on State Street near Puffer’s Pond. At 5:59 p.m., the animal welfare officer recovered two white pet rats left on the Town Common. At 6:35 p.m. a possibly rabid squirrel was reported on McClellan Street, but it was calm and eating a nut when police arrived.

∎ A 36-year-old Amherst woman will be summoned to court on a charge of shoplifting by concealment after she allegedly left the CVS Pharmacy, 76 North Pleasant St., without paying for merchandise at 2:02 p.m. Tuesday.

Easthampton

∎ Dale Mulholland, 22, of 492 Easthampton Road in Northampton, was arrested at 8:02 p.m. Tuesday on Pleasant Street on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Northampton

∎ A Florence man suffered minor injuries but did not go to a hospital after his vehicle rolled over on Burts Pit Road at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Thomas R. Atkinson, 22, of 36 Platinum Circle, told police that he was driving east when he swerved to avoid a rabbit and then overcorrected. His vehicle went off the road and struck a tree and mailbox before rolling over and coming to a stop. Police reported he was wearing a seat belt and got out of the vehicle on his own. No citations were issued.

∎ The theft of a purse from an office at 41 Locust St. was reported at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday.

∎ Wayne L. Andrews Jr., 53, of 7 Mulberry St., Leeds, was arrested near his home at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of disorderly conduct (subsequent offense). Police said Andrews refused to stop yelling at people in front of his home.

∎ A woman reported at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday that someone visiting her neighbor in Leeds Village Apartments had hit her in the side of the face with a fishing pole.

∎ A resident of Franklin Street reported at 12:21 p.m. Tuesday that someone had stolen his unlocked bicycle valued at $1,250.

∎ Jason L. King, 39, of 75 Oliver St., Easthampton, was arrested at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday on Main Street on a warrant for having an open container of alcohol and failure to pay fines.

South Hadley

∎ Vuthy Sieng, 45, of 19 Holyoke St. in Easthampton, was arrested on Newton Street at 10:07 p.m. Sunday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding.

∎ Casey M. Fitzgerald, 34, of 47 Wildwood Lane, was arrested on Wildwood Lane at 8:41 p.m. Saturday on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest, three counts of assault and battery on a police officer and failure to drive in the right lane.

Police said Fitzgerald had crossed onto the opposite side of the road and hit a parked car, damaging bumpers on that vehicle as well as his own. When officers tried to arrest him, he allegedly hit one twice and kicked another.
